Biography[]

In 1973, after being mugged, Brad Eliot hitched a ride with a friendly truck driver. The truck's last stop was Genoa City, where Brad decided to build a new life. Brad was distraught by the death of his and fiancee, Barbara Anderson's, son, who died while Brad was operating on him. Brad walked away from his medical practice as a psychiatrist and neurosurgeon in Chicago, IL. Soon after arriving, a hungry Brad stopped at Pierre's Restaurant. When he could not pay his bill, Stuart Brooks—the publisher of the Genoa City Chronicle—covered it. Stuart determined that Brad seemed to be an honest man and offered him a job. With nothing left behind him and no prospects ahead, Brad accepted.

Working for Stuart brought Brad into the orbit of Stuart’s shy, gifted daughter, Leslie Brooks. Brad admired Leslie’s quiet discipline, and she in turn found him steady and compassionate. Their gentle romance soon met turbulence when Leslie’s jealous sister, Lorie Brooks, returned home for their sister Chris Brooks's wedding to Snapper Foster.

In 1974, Lorie schemed to destroy Leslie and Brad’s bond. She accepted a position at the Chronicle to stay near Brad. When Leslie left on tour, Lorie intercepted their calls and letters—making Brad believe Leslie had lost interest and convincing Leslie that Brad had fallen for Lorie. The deception succeeded and Leslie, distraught at the thought of Brad being with Lorie, suffered a public break down and vanished for months—committed as a Jane Doe to a hellish sanitarium no one knew about.

As Leslie endured months of treatment, Lorie became engaged to Brad. Once Leslie was found and released, she accused Lorie of causing her collapse. When Brad learned the truth, he ended his engagement and reunited with Leslie.

Furious, Lorie struck back—having already uncovered Brad’s past by visiting his former fiancée, Barbara Anderson in Chicago. Lorie publicly revealed Brad's past and the trauma surrounding the operation he performed on his son.

Instead of turning away, Leslie stood by Brad, urging him to speak with Barbara and his former colleagues. They assured him he had done everything possible and was not to blame. With Leslie’s help, he also reconciled with his parents.

Aware of Leslie’s mental fragile health, Brad encouraged her to buy Pierre's Restaurant from Sally McGuire and create a safe place to perform without touring. She purchased it in 1974 and transformed it into the Allegro where she gradually regained her confidence.

After rebuilding their relationship and supporting each other through their personal traumas, Brad proposed marriage and Leslie accepted. They honeymooned in Palm Springs, where Brad arranged a meeting with Maestro Ernesto Fautsch. Fautsch persuaded Leslie to return to the stage, starting with a concert in Buffalo.

While in New York for the concert, Leslie visited the sanitarium where she had been held. The experience was painful, but Brad helped her face the traumatic memories and find peace.

In 1975, just as Leslie’s concert career had become once again successful, Brad started having health issues that he concealed from Leslie. Brad had been experiencing extreme bouts of head pain and blurred vision. Suspecting a brain tumor, but not wanting to take Leslie’s focus away from her career, Brad kept his ailments a secret.

Brad’s old colleague from Chicago, Dr. Mark Henderson, implored Brad to check into the hospital to have his symptoms investigated but Brad refused. Brad eventually admitted to Mark that he believes he is dying and that his trip with Leslie to Puerto Rico will be his last. Before they left for Puerto Rico, Brad was overcome with pain and knew that he could not go. He refused to explain his sudden change in plans to Leslie and insisted for her to trust him. Leslie, confused and in tears, left for Puerto Rico alone. Brad finally went to the hospital, where Dr. Mark Henderson told Brad that his tests were negative, but that more tests were needed.

While Leslie was performing in Puerto Rico, Dr. Mark Henderson began treating Brad with cortisone, which had almost eliminated his pain and blurry vision. Brad insisted to Mark that he could not let Leslie know of his condition, afraid that Leslie would put her career on hold to care for him.

When Leslie came home from Puerto Rico, she was still hurt that Brad was keeping something from her, but their relationship improved as Brad showered Leslie with affection.

Brad eventually went blind.
