Storylines[]
Jamie Vernon first appeared in late 2012 as a high school student who was being mentored by Ronan Malloy. Summer Newman, blaming Ronan for her parents', Nicholas Newman and Phyllis Summers, divorce due to him having an affair with Phyllis, initially thought that they were father and son. Ronan was mentoring Jamie to get back on his feet after having some legal issues and a criminal background. Summer befriended Jamie on a social networking site known as FacePlace under the alias "Brittni." Jamie revealed to "Brittni" that his criminal background was because of him breaking into his father and stepmother's apartment and trashed it. Summer then used this information and leaked it to FacePlace for everyone to see and read. Summer/Brittni then called Jamie a loser for his actions, hurting Jamie. He showed the email to Ronan who then showed it to Phyllis, believing Summer is somehow involved in the cyber-bullying.
Summer soon begins regretting for hurting Jamie after a civil conversation with him. He soon then began developing feelings for Summer, making her friend Fenmore Baldwin jealous. After Ronan moved back to Washington, DC, Michael Baldwin and Lauren Fenmore Baldwin began looking out for Jamie even giving him a roof over his head at their apartment after he was forced to leave the group home he had previously lived in, which made Fen even more jealous and rebellious toward Jamie. This time Fen began bullying Jamie, sending him threatening and insulting text messages via a pre-paid cell phone.
Wanting Jamie out of his life for good, Fen stole an expensive decoration belonging to Lauren and put it in Jamie's backpack. When Jamie ran off to the rooftop of the building, he found the item in his backpack while Fen took a picture of it, using it to frame Jamie for stealing. The two boys then struggled resulting in Jamie falling off onto a snow-covered surface below the roof. After regaining consciousness, Jamie accused Fen of pushing him while they were fighting. While Lauren believed that Fen would never intentionally hurt anyone, Michael believed Jamie's story and had his own son arrested for attempted murder.
Feeling completely alone, Jamie decided to commit suicide by throwing himself off the same roof, but Paul Williams was able to convince him to not do it. Jamie later admitted that Fen didn't push him, but that Jamie had tried to kill himself. However, Jamie knew that Fen was bullying him and confided in Paul about this. Fen was later exonerated and Jamie was sent to live with Ronan in DC. Before leaving, Fen apologized for his attitude and hostility toward Jamie, to which Jamie accepted his apology.
