Martin Laurent was played by Christopher Cousins in July 2024 to April 10, 2025. He was the identical twin brother of Alan Laurent, and posed as him from his presumed death on June 7, 2024 till the actors departure on April 10.
History[]
Growing up, Martin had a close relationship with Alan when were children, but as he got older, Martin was eventually diagnosed with psychopathy and required medication to keep it under control. He also became extremely jealous of Alan, who had become a successful therapist. Martin started studying therapy in an effort to prove he was better and smarter than his brother.
In 2023, Martin got his chance with Alan's good friend Ashley Abbott, who was visiting Paris at the time. Alan was away at a conference so Martin posed as his brother and psychologically manipulated Ashley into thinking her husband Tucker McCall had a violent angry temper when they just had a slight disagreement. Martin's machinations and psychological manipulation traumatized Ashley so much it caused her Dissociative Identity Disorder to manifest as three separate alters, who all believed Martin's lies.
Storylines[]
Paris[]
While in Paris, Tucker ran into Martin and greeted him in a friendly matter, but Martin said nothing and ran off which confused Tucker. At some point, Martin broke into Alan's apartment and locked him in the bathroom while wearing his clothes. Alan had previously been resistant to the idea of Ashley undergoing hypnosis fearing it would do more harm than good, but Martin was all for it to prove his theory and that he was smarter than her brother.
Once Martin, through hypnosis, got Ashley to successfully remember that she had blown the whole argument out of proportion with Tucker, Martin revealed who he really was to a stunned and horrified Ashley before chloroforming her and attempting to leave with her. However, Ashley's sister Traci Abbott, Tucker, and Alan all caught Martin in the act and got Ashley away from him.
Alan tried to talk Martin down and convince him to get help, but Martin refused and told Alan he wanted to become an only child as he violently attacked Alan. The brothers struggled and eventually fell over the railing of Alan's penthouse. Martin was believed to have died in the fall while Alan only suffered a broken arm. In actuality, Alan was the one who died, and Martin had survived.
Posing as Alan[]
As Alan, Martin continued his flirtation with Traci Abbott, and they visited and supported Ashley through her recovery. Martin eventually came with Traci to Genoa City where he set foot in the Abbott mansion for the first time. Martin appeared unfamiliar with the mansion despite the fact that Alan had been there before but no one seemed to noticed.
Martin and Traci fell in love even though they spent a lot of torn apart as Martin continued to attend Alan’s speaking engagements. Martin was approached by Sharon Newman, who asked to be hypnotized to see if she could remember whether or not she ran Phyllis Summers off the road. Martin agreed to Sharon’s request and the first session he was able to successfully help her remember that she did not run Phyllis off the road.
Sharon was excited and wanted to continue on to find out what happened the night Heather Stevens died, but Martin cautioned Sharon not to take on too much at once and suggested she rest. It wasn’t long before an anxious Sharon asked for Martin’s help again and he put her under hypnosis where Sharon realized she did not kill Heather and had passed out after someone touched her shoulder. She then heard Heather scream before she fully lost consciousness.
Testing Sharon and Phyllis[]
Intrigued by Sharon and Phyllis’s history of animosity, Martin was curious if he could force the two hated enemies to work together if put in a life or death situation. Martin kidnapped Sharon and Phyllis and trapped them in an old abandoned psychiatric clinic. He purchased a barn outside of Genoa City where he stored their cell phones and set up as his base of operations to speak with the two women. So he could always keep an eye on them, Martin made sure the camera’s were connected to his cell phone.
Martin spoke to them using a modulated voice and giving them various riddles to solve, the first being the night Phyllis fell and slipped into a coma; it was the same song that played at the party that night. The date of that night was the combination to a safe that contained two burner phones that Martin allowed them to use to make one call each, but warned if they tried to call for help, the phones would start going statically.
Eventually, Martin poisoned Phyllis and Sharon found the antidote. Not only was Martin testing Sharon’s resolve to save Phyllis, but he was also testing to see if Phyllis would trust Sharon enough to drink the water. Both ladies passed the test, and as Phyllis slept, Martin congratulated Sharon on figuring out the riddle. Sharon wanted to know what Martin wanted, so he told her that he has no personal investment in them, and that this was just an experiment. He advised Sharon to rest up for tomorrow.
Martin decided it was time to see if Phyllis would do the same for Sharon, so while they slept, he did something that stopped Sharon's heart and nearly killed her. Phyllis was able to resuscitate Sharon by figuring out Martin's next riddle.
During this time, Martin proposed to Traci in front of Jack and his wife Diane Jenkins at the Atheltic club and Traci happily accepted. Martin went to get a ring and on the way back, he took a moment to check in on Sharon and Phyllis and saw the two women agreeing to work together. Martin smirked and wished the women luck before heading back to Traci.
Downfall begins[]
Martin presented Traci with the ring, but his phone kept going off with a security alert. Traci noticed it and asked Martin what that was about. Martin lied that his phone had been hacked and said he would get a new one. Martin went out of town to look for a wedding venue in Paris before eventually being called back to town by Traci and Jack, who suggested they have the wedding at the Abbott mansion.
Upon Martin's return, Traci suggested putting off the wedding which confused and seemed to hurt Martin. Martin could also tell something was a different about Traci's demeanour and she was withdrawn. Jack and Ashley showed up, and Martin left the suit saying he was heartbroken.
As Martin went to the bar, he was approached by Detective Chance Chancellor, who wanted to as him some questions. Traci then stormed downstairs followed by Jack and Ashley, and told Martin that he ever loved her, he would tell her who he was. Martin continued claiming he was Alan, but Ashley called him out.
Martin tried to deflect and accused Ashley of being jealous he picked Traci over her. Martin found out he was being accused of kidnapping Sharon and Phyllis, and agreed to go with Chance just to prove his innocence.
In the interrogation room, Chance told Martin that he found the barn and there were fingerprints all over the place, so that would prove who kidnapped them. Martin accused Chance of lying but Chance just told him we'll see.
Finally Exposed[]
Chance told Martin that two women were hear to see him. Martin assumed they were Ashley and Traci but they were actually Sharon and Phyllis, who also called Martin out on posing as Alan as well as their kidnapper.
Martin continued to deny it, but Sharon and Phyllis kept pushing. Phyllis egged Martin on by saying he failed since they were still standing and that he was a loser. Martin finally snapped shouting enough and banged his hands on the table.
Sharon notes they touched a nerve, but Martin regained his composure and apologized, saying the outburst was from being accused. Martin then started praising his own genius while still pretending to be Alan praising Martin for curing Ashley when "he" couldn't.
Martin then asked the women if there predicament had helped them resolve their difference. Sharon and Phyllis claimed it didn't and that they hated each other even more now. Martin scoffed at their attempt at reverse psychology, saying if that were true they wouldn't both be there right now
Phyllis got Martin to snap again continuing to taunt him for failing and saying Alan would be ashamed of him. Martin finally exposed himself when he yelled that Alan's degree wasn't worth the paper it was written on, asserting that he was the superior brother, and saying since his actions had helped Sharon and Phyllis resolve their differences, he had committed no crime. After Sharon and Phyllis left, Chance arrested Martin, who just stared off into space as Chance read him his rights.
