Biography[]

Sally McGuire was the mother of Chuckie Roulland and Susan Martin.

In 1973, Sally worked as a waitress at Pierre's, the elegant restaurant and nightclub owned by Pierre Roulland. She was involved with Snapper Foster, who was also courting Chris Brooks. Though they had agreed their affair would be casual, Sally soon developed real feelings for Snapper. As Snapper grew serious about Chris—who wanted to wait until marriage to be intimate—he continued seeing Sally in secret. When Chris’s father, Stuart Brooks, discovered the affair, he told his daughter. Though Chris first refused to believe him, she eventually learned the truth and ended things with Snapper.

After the breakup, Snapper kept seeing Sally casually, but for her the affair had become love. Hoping to bind him to her, she stopped taking her birth control pills. Her friend Brad Eliot warned that such a plan could only lead to pain, but Sally was determined to have Snapper’s child.

When Chris was attacked in her home and raped, Snapper rushed to her. Devoted completely to Chris's recovery from the trauma, Snapper ended his relationship Sally.

Soon after learning she was pregnant, Sally heard of Chris and Snapper’s engagement. Realizing he would never choose her, she attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. Brad found her in time and rushed her to Genoa City Memorial Hospital, saving both Sally's life and her baby's.

In 1974, after recovering, Sally resolved to tell Snapper about the baby. When Liz Foster, learned the truth, she begged Sally not to ruin her son’s career or marriage. Thrilled by the thought of a grandchild despite the scandal, Liz promised to stand by Sally through the pregnancy as if she were family. Reluctantly, Sally agreed to stay silent and turned instead to her employer, Pierre Roulland. Deeply in love with her, Pierre offered to marry Sally and give her child his name. She accepted, and they wed hastily just before Chris and Snapper’s ceremony.

Over time, Sally grew to appreciate Pierre’s kindness. The couple planned to sell Pierre’s Restaurant and move to France, but tragedy struck when Pierre was killed during a robbery at Pierre’s. His sister, Marianna Roulland, blamed Sally and tried to force her out, but Pierre’s will named Sally the legal owner. Marianna returned to France with her brother’s body.

Snapper discovered that Sally was carrying his child. She planned to leave Genoa City, but Snapper urged her to stay, worried the overdose might have affected the baby. Sally agreed and later gave birth to a son, Pierre Charles “Chuckie” Roulland, named for the man who had been willing to raise another’s child.

Sally’s joy was short-lived when Chuckie became gravely ill. Snapper, now an intern at Genoa City Memorial, spent every spare moment at their bedside. Compassionate Chris, unaware of the truth, encouraged him to comfort Sally and her baby. One night, however, Chris overheard a conversation that revealed Snapper was Chuckie’s father.

The revelation devastated Chris. She suffered a miscarriage soon after, and the grief nearly destroyed their marriage. In time, though, Chris forgave Snapper, and they began to rebuild their life together.

Once Chuckie recovered, Sally chose to start anew. She sold Pierre’s to Leslie Brooks and left Genoa City for Chicago.

By 1981, Sally re-entered Snapper's life with their son, Chuckie, who was seriously ill. While Chuckie was hospitalized with a kidney problem, Sally realized that she was still attracted to Snapper, but Snapper was adamant that she move on with her life. When Chuckie was cured, Snapper shared an emotional good-bye with both Sally and Chuckie as they returned home with Sally's fiancee, Stan Harris. Sally later married and divorced Stan.

At one point, Sally had an affair with Frank Martin with whom she had a daughter, Susan Martin, who died.
